What do Canadians make of Carney’s meeting with Trump?

Prime Minister Mark Carney met with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday and reiterated that Canada “is not for sale” as the president raised the prospect of the country becoming the 51st US state.

Carney won the election last month promising to “stand up” to Trump, who has imposed tariffs on some Canadian products and sometimes talks about annexing the country.

The BBC spoke with Canadians from across the country in Montreal, in the the province of Quebec, to hear their thoughts on how Carney performed in the meeting with his counterpart and whether its outcome will have a lasting impact.
